How to choose a wedding venue

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

Getting engaged is an exciting new chapter in every couple’s life. However, planning a wedding can be quite overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. Selecting the right venue will set the tone for the big day. There are several things to take into consideration for picking the right venue, so we’ve gathered important things you need to know in order to make this process easier. Though it’s definitely not easy, it’s possible to find a wedding venue you love with a great location at a price you can afford.

What’s your budget?

This is the first thing you need to know before planning a wedding. It’s highly disappointing to find a wedding venue you absolutely love, but can’t afford it. Once you have a budget for the venue, filter your search accordingly. The cost of the venue depends on many factors. Some venues are all-inclusive and others aren’t. It also depends whether you plan to get married at a separate location from the reception or all in the same place.

Where do you want to get married?

Some people have destination weddings and others get married where they live. If you want to celebrate your big day with all your friends and family, find a place that works for you and your guests. There are several venues in the Greater Boston and Providence metro area that could be perfect for you. CLICK HERE to see a list of venues we recommend

Keep in mind some venues have catering restrictions so make sure you investigate that as well.

Save the date!

Finding a wedding venue when you have a specific date in mind can make things more challenging. While it doesn’t mean you won’t find anything, it will certainly take longer to find. However, if you’re more flexible about the specific date you might be able to find a venue faster. Like traveling, there are high seasons for getting married. For example, winter weddings tend to be more affordable than summer weddings. As a result, wedding venues are generally more available in wintertime.

Pick a theme

Do you want a traditional wedding? Perhaps you’d like to have a more casual and modern wedding. This is important as it will narrow down your wedding venue search. When you have a clear vision of the style and theme you’d like to have on your wedding day you’ll have a better idea of the type of venue you’ll need.

Go to a bridal/wedding expo

Planning a wedding is overwhelming. You need to consider so many things that knowing where to start can be a hassle. Wedding expos are a great way to meet potential services for your wedding that you’ll love. Wedding decoration, venues, musicians, caterers, and all things related to weddings can be found here. Go to a local wedding expo, you’ll be surprised at what you can find.
