The Coronavirus and Your Wedding

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event and we appreciate the healthcare workers, local communities, and governments around the world who are on the front line working to contain this coronavirus.

In this climate, we know difficult decisions will have to be made as you plan your wedding. Here’s some advice you may find helpful.

The wedding industry is certainly facing disruptions amid the new coronavirus pandemic. The impact is already being felt by difficulties in receiving deliveries on time, destination and cruise ship weddings, and guests are having to cancel last minute.

Please consider the following:

Changes in the guest counts

Older guests or those with immune system deficiencies should consider staying home.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to travel. Guest traveling in from high risk locations such as China, Italy and Europe in general most likely will not be able to secure a visa to enter the US.

Venue

Discuss with your wedding venue health and safety measures, and any updates to policy that may affect your plans. Even how the food is presented may be modified to reduce cross-contamination. Self-serve food presentations have been temporarily unavailable in some establishments.

Deliveries

Verify the status on deliveries of any imported flowers, decorations, dresses, or make alternative arrangements with local vendors.

Travel

The US government has travel advisories out for several regions around the world, including Italy and China. They’ve also advised against any cruise ship travel due to the possibility of being infected in a small space after Americans have fallen ill on ships.

Insurance

Wedding insurance may not cover coronavirus-related cancellations. Whether your wedding insurance covers a global health crisis like the new coronavirus will depend on the terms. Some policies may include language with a coronavirus exclusion.

It is important to remain calm and focused in resolving situations without panicking. If you are not already working with a wedding planner, you may want to consider hiring one to help you sail through these difficult times. Wedding planners are no longer just for the rich and famous, there’s one for every budget and taste with plans from full service to just coordinating the day of the wedding.
